Care & cleaning.
Treat them well and they'll outlast the car. Here's how.
Every HUDDYS pair ships with a hard case and a microfiber cloth. The cloth is the only thing that should ever touch your lenses regularly. Paper towels, T-shirts, lens cleaners with ammonia, and pocket lint will all degrade the AR coating over time — even if you can't see the damage in the moment.
The five rules
Clean with the included microfiber, dry.
For light smudges, a few seconds with the included cloth on dry lenses is all you need. The microfiber's fibers are designed to lift oils without abrasion. Don't breathe on the lens first — moisture-and-rub is how AR coatings get scratched.
For real grime, rinse with cool water first.
Sand, salt, dust, anything gritty — rinse under cool tap water to wash particles off before any wiping. Skip this step and you'll drag the grit across the AR coating with the cloth, leaving micro-scratches that show in low light.
Store in the case, every time.
The case is included for a reason. Tossing them lens-down in a console, bag, or pocket is the fastest way to scratch the back-surface AR. The case folds flat for easy carry. Use it.
Don't leave them in a hot car.
Sustained heat above 150°F / 65°C can warp PC frames and weaken lens coatings. The case inside an air-conditioned cabin is fine. The dashboard in summer sun is not. If you have to leave them, leave them in the case in the glovebox or center console.
Adjust at home, not on the road.
Metal frames flex slightly with use. If your fit gets loose over time, a local optician can re-tension the temples in 30 seconds for free. Don't bend metal hinges yourself — they'll snap, and that damage isn't covered under warranty.
Do / don't, quick reference
Do
- Use the included microfiber cloth
- Rinse with cool water before wiping if dirty
- Store in the case when not worn
- Use both hands to put on and take off
- Have a local optician adjust the fit if needed
Don't
- Use paper towels, T-shirts, or facial tissues
- Use Windex, ammonia, or alcohol-based cleaners
- Leave on a hot dashboard
- Pull off one-handed (warps the temples)
- Bend metal hinges yourself
Replacing the microfiber cloth
Microfibers wear out. After 6-12 months of regular use, the fibers compress and the cloth stops lifting oils as effectively. We sell replacement cloths — and we'll send you a free one with your next order if you mention it in the order notes.
What's not covered by the warranty
Your 1-year warranty covers manufacturing defects only. Damage from improper care — scratched AR coatings, warped frames from heat, broken hinges from forced bending, or impact damage from drops — falls outside warranty coverage. Following the rules above is how you keep them looking like Edition 01 for the long haul.
